In the last 20 years the West Indies have won 13 Test matches against Australia , England , S Africa and India .... and lost 72.

In the 1980's they played 24 Test matches against England and lost none of them.

The West Indies or Windies as they are now to be known are a pale shadow of bygone days

To lose by an innings and 209 runs is truly shocking

as a Test Cricket nation they are a spent force

Alistair Cook stoops to tie laces.

M. Holding - A West Indian fielder should go and help. Tie both legs together, that might help.

Sums it up really.

Watching the final hour the West Indies looked like the most disinterested team I can remember seeing. And that's after one day's play.

I've played in plenty of matches where by forty overs of being hammered around the park the entire team's head have dropped, but surely with a professional team there must be some enthusiasm to do well, even after a tough day in the field?

Re: 1st Test England v West Indies (D/N) at Edgbaston
These bowlers are so crap they can't even get Malan out

The ICC should put the West Indies on notice that if they don't sort themselves out they will be booted out of Test cricket
Sad to see the shit masquerading as a West Indies Test cricket team.

I'm only listening on TMS so can't tell from watching but it sounds as though Cook could bat on for days

Any budding Michael Holdings or Malcolm Marshalls out there?

No, I thought not

Stuart Law has to send a message on to get the West Indies fast bowlers to take the new ball under the lights

Root has another century. England going along very nicely. Poor WI attack though offering very little

It's just to do with when you soak the leather in oil it gets darker which doesn't matter with the red ball but there isn't one that stays light as it soaks in.
Which is why you sometimes hear that when fast bowlers pick balls out of the box from umpires before a Test they often look for the darkest ones.

Re: 1st Test England v West Indies (D/N) at Edgbaston
Only makes sense if there is literally no other oil on Earth that can protect the leather on the ball in a similar way. Which seems a bit strange.

Thanks Sven, that makes a bit of sense.

Sven Roeder 6:25 Thu Aug 17
Re: 1st Test England v West Indies (D/N) at Edgbaston
I understood there is some sort of oil that they put in the dye when they make the red ball that they can't put in for the white and pink as they would be too dark.
And it is this oil that protects the red ball better than the others.

Re: 1st Test England v West Indies (D/N) at Edgbaston
England are fucked when cook goes.

And a bit early to judge some, but this Windies attack is worse than Afghanistan's, so several failures wouldn't be good.

stoneman 5:14 Thu Aug 17
Re: 1st Test England v West Indies (D/N) at Edgbaston
Luke Wells must surely be next in line for a shot at the opening berth?

Oh and pink balls are awful, they don't retain the shine and the lacquer comes off really quickly. Give me a Gray Nicholls ball every day.
